On September 8th, The Orangeville Opera house welcomed world class performers to entertain the crowd, with the goal of raising money for to the DAREarts program.

The host and organizer of the event, Pamela Scott-Demetriou, is well-known for her role in the hit CBC series, “How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria.” Pamela turned to her friends in the arts community to bring the Toronto stage to Orangeville.

In an interview with Bill Tremblay, a writer for the Orangeville Banner, Pamela noted that, “with this foundation, I know where the money is going. It’s local. This is all created in our community.” Pamela also had a personal interest in DAREarts, as she had agreed to join a team of DAREarts teachers last March on a trip to Constance Lake First Nation, a remote community in Northern Ontario. Unfortunately due to an inability to commit funding, the DAREarts First Roots program was unable to expand to Constance Lake last year. “That is what really hit me in the head, I need to raise money to help them fund this program,” she said.

The evening was a tremendous success. The performers provided a varied program of entertainment for the crowd. The audience had rave reviews for the evening: “..it was the best show I have ever seen at Theatre Orangeville”; “… I am very impressed with the fact that it all came together in one day”; “… I am very impressed that so many of [the performers] drove from so far to be here.”
The “Dare to Dream” concert allowed artists to showcase their favourite work. Performers donated their time as an in-kind contribution to support DAREarts. Shortly after the event, Pamela presented a cheque to the Founder and President of DAREarts, Marilyn Field, in the amount of $2000, which will be directed towards an Aboriginal Community that has never experienced the DAREarts program before.

In a note from Pamela to the performers, she shared that “Every time I do this concert I think I am crazy for taking on such a task. And then, the day comes and I am on cloud nine for the whole time…I haven’t smiled that much since my wedding day. Thank you so much for making this Concert what it was. I am so grateful to have all of you in my life.”
On behalf of DAREarts and Pamela Scott-Demetriou, we offer our sincere thanks and gratitude to those who attended to support the event and to our exceptional artists:
